This issue is completely resolved satisfactorily and can with complete certainty say that if you have an LG combo DVD/HDD recorder, you can take the ATA drive out, plug it into a ÚSB - ATA adapter, use DMDE to scan for media signatures in RAW and you'll be able to extract your videos.
