Answered by Dan Powell. All new petrol cars have a particulate filter (which captures harmful particles and then burns them off as part of its regeneration cycle). We don't get many complaints about petrol particulate filters, partly due to the fact the temperate to burn off the gathered material is lower than that of diesel particulate filters.
The engine is nice and quite on tick over but the burning oil is a slight mystery. I have had no dpf problems because the car does motorway miles but I do have to keep topping it up every week. I change the oil every 10,000 and in that time I could go through 2 maybe even 3 litres topping up before the next Change.
